CSIRO Staff Association members and delegates are invited to submit an expression of interest to attend Science meets Parliament (SMP) 2022.
Conducted online over several days in late February and early March, the conference is described as ‘Australia’s single largest vehicle for deep engagement between the science and technology sector and decision-makers.’
As a founding member of event host Science and Technology Australia (STA), each year the union sponsors a number of Staff Association members to participate.
Staff Association members interested in attending the event should email a brief expression of interest (EOI) to csstaff@cpsu.org.au by Friday 18 February 2022.
The short EOI should describe the work performed at CSIRO and reasons for the interest in attending SMP.
CSIRO Staff Association delegates Carlie Devine and Ryan Farr were sponsored to attend last year’s event.
“As an as early career researcher, it was really informative for me to kind of get to understand and think of how policy is made, how that link between science and scientific research and politicians is made and how we can start becoming those trusted advisors to try and help shape policy,” Ryan said.
“A real highlight for me was meeting a parliamentarian. It was really nice to talk one-on-one and experience a really engaging opportunity, a great way to start connecting to our policy makers,” Carlie said.
