“We also have a lot of students that work in CSIRO and, we think of them as interns but the technical name for them is, Postdocs,” said Chief Executive Larry Marshall at Senate Estimates in October 2019.
“These are kids that have just graduated, and they come into CSIRO to actually work on an industry project so that they’re more employable by industry.
“They tend to cycle through as well.”
The Staff Association believes that all CSIRO staff – including Postdocs – deserve greater respect for the work they perform.
Many Postdocs have been calling on Dr Marshall to apologise for his comments. They have also asked the Staff Association to protect Postdoc rights and conditions in enterprise bargaining.
